Project "Alive Water" — new technologies for obtaining drinking water and cooled air

According to the UN's official data, fresh water consumption will grow by one-third over the next 25 years, and will almost double for drinking water. At the same time the planet's water resources are getting scarcer. Already one-third of the world population live in countries, where water is in short supply; by 2025 two-thirds of them will live in such countries. Almost every fifth on the Earth suffers shortage of safe drinking water. The world tension is escalating because of the shared rivers, threatening with armed conflicts because of water shortage.

The two-thirds of fresh water reserves are concentrated in high-latitude glaciers of the planet. Various projects on ice delivery from Antarctica, Greenland have been arising. As a rule, the question in these projects was about practically unfeasible propulsion of icebergs by vessels and about unprofitable transportation of quick-thawing ice-crumbs by tankers. None of this numerous projects has been realized so far.

The offered by us technology of ice delivery and utilization includes the following stages: extraction of ice-blocks weighing many thousand tons; hauling the ice-blocks down into water; loading from water into the hold of the original design vessel - trimaran-ledovoz; transportation of the ice-blocks; unloading the ice-blocks in a port of destination into a special ice-receiving plant. There the sun and incoming hot outside air cause the ice to thaw, transforming it into the thawed water, and the air being cooled down can be used for industrial and household purposes. The cost price of one liter of such ice water amounts to 1 US cent. By specialists' calculations, over two thousand trimarans - ice-carrier ships of hundred thousand tons displacement each will be required in the nearest 50 years to provide countries and regions with fresh water and ice. First of all Arab and African states, regions of Southeast Asia, Japan, China are in great need of fresh ice water and cooled air, although both Europe and the USA won't reject thawed water - the best water for men's health.

To avoid deadheading (empty voyages}, on the way back trimarans are loaded with any cargo stowed in a new originally designed floating system - barcon placed and transported inside the hold of a trimaran - ice-carrier ship. The barcons are used for the transportation of all types of cargo - oil, liquefied gas, containers, bulk cargo, timber etc.

Utilization of transported ice allows to save irreplaceable hydrocarbon fuel, and thus not to burn atmospheric oxygen, not to evolve heat in the atmosphere and not to enhance the greenhouse effect. Globalization and implementation of the Project on the world scale will positively influence upon the stabilization of the world's climate and ecology, retarding negative processes occurring today in the world.

It is not necessary to build specialized ice-receiving plants for countries and regions located in moderate latitudes, where summer temperatures are not very high, and, hence, no need in cooled air. Ice will be utilized immediately after cutting the ice-blocks into the smaller-sized chunks and ice crumbs. We would like to relieve ecologists' anxiety concerning probable consequences from the activity on ice extraction for nature of the Antarctic Continent, Greenland, Alaska. If to consider the normal water consumption as 2,5 liters per a day, then one billion water-requiring people for one year will utilize one billion tons of ice. That is just one cubic kilometer of ice. The Antarctic Continent contains about 30 million cubic kilometers of ice.

The implementation of this Project fully conforms to the spirit and content of the Kyoto Protocol of 1997 and the Resolutions of the World Summit on sustainable development held in Johannesburg (Republic of South Africa) in 2002.
